Biotechnology

This area focuses on immunodiagnostics, and its work has made it possible to develop and introduce in the market diverse diagnosis kits (toxoplasmosis, hydatidosis, pregnancy, C-reactive protein, and rheumatoid factor). Professionals that work on biotechnology have experience in ELISA platforms, latex agglutination of particles for visual and turbidimetric reading, immunochromatographic, and generation of antisera and monoclonal antibodies.

The work of the area focuses on the production, purification and modification of antisera and proteins to be used in the generation of immunochemical reagents and its further scaling-up. They are used as a tool for the detection of analytes in human and animal health, and for the monitoring of production processes.

• Development, validation and scaling-up of immunoassays.
• Physicochemistry of colloids applied to immunotechnology.
• Development of protein purification processes.
• Search and characterization of microbial cellulolytic enzymes.
• Synthesis and immobilization of synthetic peptides.
• Development and assessment of microparticles as vaccine adjuvants.
• Generation of recombinant antibodies.
